Enhancing sustainable economic growth, competitiveness, social welfare and new jobs are the key priorities of Slovenia in the upcoming period. To realise the set objectives we need efficient coordination of national development policies and their implementation by applying the funds available to us under the EU budget to greatest possible extent.
In the given limitations to growth, the Cohesion policy funds represent the main investment funds which contribute to enhancing sustainable growth, new jobs and long-term development. For Slovenia these funds represent the key instrument for stimulating economic growth and competitiveness, enhancing human capital and innovation capacities, for effectiveness of the state, the labour market and social welfare as well as sustainable, environmental and territorial development.
The efficiency and effectiveness of the development policy of the Republic of Slovenia in the upcoming period requires proper and strategically-adequate placement of the management of the EU funds and other financial mechanisms as this can significantly improve the impact of public expenditure on the economy, social and environmental development and thus provide synergies. In practice, inefficient and/or ineffective system of EU funds absorption may cause a standstill of the majority of development policy in the Republic of Slovenia in the upcoming years.
The Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy is responsible for two areas of work, namely the European Cohesion Policy and Development.
