Process of data collection and compilation

Juuso Koponen (b. 1978) is a Helsinki-based information designer, writer, educator and DJ.
His design studio Koponen+Hildén works with a variety of mostly public sector and NGO clients to make their data more accessible and understandable. The company combines methods from design, investigative journalism and computer science to create rich, data-driven visualizations and analyses. Their work ranges from printed publications such as the award-winning Arts and Culture in Helsinki () and Helsinki Bicycle Account 2015 () to interactive visualizations for clients such as University of Helsinki (http://toissa.fi) and Kulturkontakt Nord (). They also organize data visualization workshops, which so far have been hosted in Helsinki, Tampere, Oulu, Lahti, Tallinn, Amsterdam and Ljubljana.
Koponen also works as a visiting lecturer at Aalto University, Lahti University of Applied Sciences and other Finnish universities, and is the principal author of a forthcoming Finnish language primer on information design, Tieto näkyväksi (Aalto ARTS Books, 2016). He organizes the annual Visualizing Knowledge conference (http://tietonakyvaksi.fi) which this year brought together 650 people from the academia, government, industry and media to see presentations by Finnish and international experts on visual methods for presenting information.
Koponen is an open data advocate and part of the Helsinki YIMBY movement (), a large group of urban planning enthusiasts that hopes to steer Helsinki to become a densely built, environmentally sustainable city. He is a deputy member of the Helsinki City Museum’s board of directors. He is also a DJ and club promoter ().
